The hydroxyl group on methanol can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules, while methane does not have any polar bits which allow water to form hydrogen bonds to. This accounts for the solubilities of both methanol and methane in water.

Due to the formation of Hydrogen bonding in methanol in water, it is miscible with water. But in iodo methane or Methyl iodide such a Hydrogen bonding is not possible and so it is not miscible with water
