—(••÷ Answer ÷••)—

  • ❇️ a) Cutting is a method of vegetative propagation in which the portion of stem, leaf or root detached from mother plant induced to rooting and shooting in a proper medium.

  • ❇️ b) Layering has evolved as a common means of vegetative propagation of numerous species in natural environments. Layering is also utilized by horticulturists to propagate desirable plants. Natural layering typically occurs when a branch touches the ground, whereupon it produces adventitious roots.

  • ❇️ c) Grafting is the act of placing a portion of one plant (bud or scion) into or on a stem, root, or branch of another (stock) in such a way that a union will be formed and the partners will continue to grow. ... Grafting and budding are the most widely used vegetative propagation methods.

\huge\boxed{\fcolorbox{cyan}{red}{a)~CUTTING~:-}}

1) Some plants grow individually when a piece of the parent plant having bud is cut from the existing plant .

2) The lower part of this cutting is buried in moist cell .

3) After few days the cut parts having buds grow as an individual plant after developing roots .

\huge\boxed{\fcolorbox{cyan}{red}{b)~LAYERING~:-}}

1) A branch of the plant with at least one node is bent towards the ground . It is covered with moist soil leaving the tip of the branch exposed above the ground .

2) After some time , new roots develop from the part of the branch buried in the soil .

3) The branch is then cut off from the parent plant . The part which has developed roots grows to become a new plant .

\huge\underline{\fcolorbox{cyan}{red}{c)~GRAFTING~:-}}

1) Two plants are joined together in such a way that two stems join and grow as a single plant .

2) One which is attached to soil is called stock and the cut stem of another plant without roots is called scion .

3) Both stock and scion are tied with help of a twine thread and covered by a polythene cover .

[ Grafting is used to obtain a plant with desirable characters . ]

This technique is very useful in propagation improved varieties of various flowers and fruits .
