Explain the following process/events.
1. Put two to three iron nails in the blue solution of copper sulphate and after 15 to 20
minutes the colour of the solution turns green.
2. Give the basic difference between weather and climate.
3. The red litmus paper turns blue when it is dipped into the solution of magnesium oxide
with water.

Answer:

1.When iron nails are dropped in the solution of CuSO_{4}, the colour of the solution changes to green as the following reaction takes place:

            CuSO_{4}+FeFeSO_{4}+Cu

This is a displacement reaction, in which iron takes the place of copper as it is above the metal reactivity series. The blue colour of copper sulphate changes to green and the copper settles down as red or pink colour.

Answer:

Explanation:

1. When you put two or three Iron nails in copper sulphate solution and left them for 15 - 20 minutes they appear brownish in colour. This happens because on the reactivity series of metals Iron is more reactive than copper and when we put Iron in copper sulphate solution iron displaces the copper ion present in the aqueous solution and form. In this reaction, metallic iron is converted into ferrous ion (Fe2+) and cupric ion (Cu2 +) is converted into metallic copper. Fe (s) + Cu2 + (aq) —→ Fe2+ (aq) + Cu (s). And hence iron displaces copper and the metallic copper stick to the iron nail and a brownish coating is formed on the iron nail.

2. Weather :- The state of the atmosphere with respect to wind, temperature, cloudiness, moisture, pressure, etc. is known as Weather.

Climate :- Climate means the usual condition of the temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, rainfall, and other meteorological elements in an area of the Earth's surface for a long time.

Weather refers to short-term changes in the atmosphere, Climate describes what the weather is like over a long period of time in a specific area.

3. When an litmus paper is dipped in a salt solution the litmus paper turns from blue to red and if the litmus paper is already red then it remains red.

When an litmus paper is dipped in a basic solution the litmus paper turns from red to blue and if the litmus paper is already blue then it remains blue.

According to question,

The red litmus paper turns blue when it is dipped into the solution of magnesium oxide with water. This indicates that the solution of magnesium oxide with water is basic because the red litmus paper turns into blue.
