It was at the time of provisional elections in the British India which were held in 1936-37.
The election was undertaken as the result of mandating of the Government of India Act 1935.
The Indian National Congress turned out to be victorious in all eight provinces of then; but many of the leaders resigned and the reason behind resignation was rising a protest against Lord Viceroy’s action.
Lord Viceroy declared that India would also be argumentative in the Second World War without asking the Indians.
