Reason :-

The reason behind this is Magnesium ion is smaller then the Magnesium atom. As we know that Magnesium atom contains more atoms then that of Magnesium ion.Magnesium ion has 10 electrons while magnesium atom has 12 electrons. Magnesium ion is neutral while magnesium atom is positively charged.
