Explain the following using Newton’s First Law of Motion.
1. You are riding a bicycle along the road and firstly you stop pedaling but the bicycle continues to move forward until it comes to a stop
2. You brake suddenly. The bicycle stops but you continue to move over the handlebars of the
bicycle.
3. It takes a bigger force to increase the speed a heavier truck than a small car.
4.The Earth orbits around the Sun in a curved orbit and does not fly off in a straight line.

Answer: As these forces are opposing in nature, they tend to make the bicycle slow and eventually stop. When we pedal the bicycle, we apply more force than the air resistance and friction combined to move forward but once we stop pedaling a moving bicycle, the forces mentioned tend to have more effect and make the bicycle stop.
