- Abstract thinking is the ability to consider concepts beyond what we observe physically. Recognizing patterns, analyzing ideas, synthesizing information, solving problems, and creating things all involve abstract thinking. A great example of abstract thinking at work is humor. Comedians are experts in abstract thinking. They observe the world around them.
- The Personal Fable is a belief held by many adolescents telling them that they are special and unique, so much so that. none of life's difficulties or problems will affect them regardless of their behavior. Some examples of their thoughts are it is they who will realize their ambitions and not others, other people will grow old and die, but not they, and others will fall into trouble, but not they. This belief comes from an adolescent's acute focus on himself or herself as the center of attention.
- Idealism is the metaphysical view that associates reality to ideas in the mind rather than to material objects. It lays emphasis on the mental or spiritual components of experience, and renounces the notion of material existence.examples: Absolute idealism - a philosophy that can be attributed to Hegel, suggests that in order for the mind to interact with the world, thought and being must have their own sense of identity. We relate to the world not because it is different from the mind, but because it is of the same substance.
- The imaginary audience refers to a state where an individual imagines and believes that multitudes of people are enthusiastically listening to or watching them. Though this state is often exhibited in young adolescence, people of any age may harbor a fantasy of an imaginary audience.Examples of imaginary audience: A teen that is affected by imaginary audience might be self-conscious and may worry about what other people think of them. They may change their clothes constantly before leaving the house to make sure they are presentable for everybody that is watching them.
