(a) The Forest Act of 1878 divided forests into (i) reserved (ii) protected and (iii) village forests. (b) The best forests were called reserved forests. Villagers could not take anything from these forests even for their personal use. They could take wood for building their house or for fuel from protected or village forests.

The forest act of 1878 is the act implemented by the British Government which divides the forests into
1.)Reserved
2.)Protected
and3.)Village forests
this acts forces the people living in the villages in and around the forests to not use the plant residues for their use and even cattle are not allowed to graze in the forests ,villagers have no permission to enter the forests and use any of the plant residue .
