CAUSTIC SODA -

  • Chemical formula - Sodium Hydroxide.
  • Chemical Formula - NaOH.
  • Preparation - 2NaCl + 2H2O —> 2NaOH + H2 + Cl2.

➸ Sodium hydroxide is produced by electrolysis of concentrated aqueous solution of NaCl.

➸ During this process, Cl2 gas is produced at (+) electrode and hydrogen gas is produced at (-) electrode.

➸ NaOH is formed near cathode.

➸ This process is called chlor alkaline process.

➸ The process of electrolysis of NaCl solution is called chlor alkali process because of the products formed that is chlor for chlorine and alkaline for NaOH
