a) One atom of carbon (2.4) combines with two atoms of oxygen (2.6) to form the compound carbon dioxide CO2 (only the outer shell of carbon's electrons are shown). ... The carbon dioxide molecule is held together by the strong C=O. carbon–oxygen double covalent bonds by sharing electrons.

b)Ammonia is formed from 3 atoms of Hydrogen and 1 atom of Nitrogen. Nitrogen has 5 Valence Electrons ( 2,5 ) in its outer shell, so the valence electrons of 3 hydrogen atoms gets shared and it forms Ammonia through Co-valent bonding.

c)The two chlorine atoms are said to be joined by a covalent bond. The reason that the two chlorine atoms stick together is that the shared pair of electrons is attracted to the nucleus of both chlorine atoms. Hydrogen atoms only need two electrons in their outer level to reach the noble gas structure of helium.
