cuso5.5H2O
it is know as blue vitriol
chemical name is hydrated copper sulphate.

it is formed by the method of water of crystallization.

take a few crystals of copper sulphate in a dry test tube
and heat it
on heating it loses it's blue colour
now add 2or3 drops water to copper sulphate obtained after heating it regains it's blue colour.

in the above activity copper sulphate crystals which seem to be dry contain the water of crystallization when these crystals are heated water present in crystals evaporates and salt turns white.

this blue vitriol is used in industrial salts, electrodes of battery..etc

PROPERTIES

1. it is blue in colour

2. it dissolves in water but not in alcohol

3.on heating it decomposes to cupric oxide and sulphur trioxide (at 700°c)

4.copper sulphate gives deep blue colour on mixing with ammonium hydroxide.

I hope this helps u
