Answer:

Lattice energy depends upon two factors:

charge on ion (greater the charge higher is the lattice energy)

size of ion (smaller the size of ion greater is the lattice energy)

Among KCl and MgO, K has charge +1 and Mg has charge +2. Also, K

+

has larger ionic radii than Mg

+2

. So, both the factors add up and the lattice energy of MgO is higher than KCl.

LiF and LiBr have the same cation and same ionic charge. So lattice energy depends upon the size of anion. F

 is smaller than Br

, therefore, lattice energy of LiF is higher than LiBr.

MgF

2

has a charge +2 while NaCl has a charge +1. Therefore, lattice energy of MgF

2

 is higher than NaCl.

Answer:

Good morning

Explanation:

kic

When the two atoms are in contact, potassium readily transfers its outer electron to chlorine which readily accepts it, resulting in both atoms achieving a state of eight outermost electrons. With this electron transfer, the ionic bond in KCl is formed.

Lif

A lithium atom can lose one electron easily to form positive lithium ion and a luoride atom can accept the electron released by lithium atom to form negative fluoride ion. Both the lithium ion and fluoride ion achieve noble gas configuration in this way and attract each other to form lithium fluoride.

mgo

Show the formation of MgO by the transfer of electrons in the two elements. ... Magnesium (Mg) loses two electrons from its outermost shell and becomes Mg2+, while oxygen(O) gains two electrons to become O2- .
