The formation of O2 molecule by Lewis theory is as follows:

- Lewis's theory is based upon the completion of octet either by complete transfer or sharing of electrons.

- Oxygen has atomic no 8.

- In its outer shell, there are 6 electrons.

- So, it needs 2 electrons to complete its octet.

- Two oxygen atoms share two of their electrons with each other.

- In this way, they form a double bond.

- Now both of them have completed their octet by sharing 2 electrons.

- Hence the molecule O2 is formed.
