Explain the formation of rainbow? in simple way
Answers
Answer:
Rainbow is formed by the dispersion of sunlight. It usually appears after the rain.In the formation of rainbow many phenomenon occurs at a same time. These are as follows :-
1)Refraction
2)Reflection
When the sunlight is passed through or go into the suspended particles in the atmosphere internal refraction take place and causes a band of seven colours called rainbow. And when these rays come into our eyes we can able to see a rainbow.
Note = A rainbow always forms on the opposite side of the sun.
Here , raindrop acts like a small prism.
☁️ Rainbow formation:
Before knowing about the formation of Rainbow, let us know about Dispersion. Dispersion is the spilliting of white light into seven colours (VIBGYOR) on passing through a transparent medium like the glass prism. It is because colours of light travels at different speeds and have different wavelengths. These band of seven colours formed on a screen is known as Spectrum
✳ In the nature, One of the most beautiful example of natural spectrum and dispersion of light is Rainbow, which is formed by the dispersion of sunlight by tiny water drops. Rainbow is a arch of seven colours(But have undistinguished boundaries).
- Here, Red colour has the highest wavelength, hence it deviates the least. And, Violet colour has lowest wavelength and deviates the most.
The Small tiny drops act like prism in the nature. Each raindrop helps in splitting of sunlight into a spectrum. As white sunlight, enters and leaves these prisms, the different colour light rays refracted at different amount. This shows that white sunlight consists of seven colours which is seen through a rainbow.
⚠️ Hence, Rainbow always forms on the opposite side of Sun☀️.
