Explain the formation of sodium chloride and calcium oxide on the basis

Sodium has 1 valence electrons in his outermost shell whereas chlorine has 7 valence electrons it is electronegative in nature and chlorine take one electron from sodium to become stable. similarly it is also valid in calcium oxide.
