sodium chloride is an ionic compound composed of sodium with electronic configuration (2,8,1)and chlorine with electronic configuration (2,8,7).Sodium donates and electron and chlorine really accept that electron to obtain 8 electrons in its outermost orbits. the positively charged sodium ions actress the negatively charged chlorine ion with a strong electrostatic forces and forming the ionic compounds sodium chloride.
