The Vedic system in Darma-shasthras divides society into four varnas( BHRAMINS,KSHATHRIYAS,VAISHYA and SHRUDAS)Those who fail out of this system because of their greivous sins are ostracised as outcastes (untouchables) and considered outside the VARNA system.
