There are four chambers of heart called as right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle and left ventricle. Their functions are as follows.

1. Right atrium: It receives the blood from the body and sends it to right ventricle.

2. Right ventricle: It receives the blood from right atrium and sends it to lungs for purification.

3. Left atrium: It receives the purified blood from lungs and sends it to left ventricle.

4. Left ventricle: It receives the purified blood from left atrium and sends it to other parts of the body.

Generally arteries are the blood vessels which transport blood away from the heart while veins are generally the blood vessels which transport blood towards the heart.

Function of human heart :

The human heart has four chambers: two upper chambers (the atria) and two lower ones (the ventricles), according to the National Institutes of Health. The right atrium and right ventricle together make up the "right heart," and the left atrium and left ventricle make up the "left heart."
