Explanation:

The optic nerve is located in the back of the eye. It is also called the second cranial nerve or cranial nerve II. It is the second of several pairs of cranial nerves. Although the optic nerve is part of the eye, it is considered to be in the central nervous system. The job of the optic nerve is to transfer visual information from the retina to the vision centers of the brain via electrical impulses. Our blind spot is caused by the absence of specialized photosensitive cells, or photoreceptors, in the part of the retina where the optic nerve exits the eye

The optic nerve is composed of retinal ganglion cell axons and glial cells. Each human optic nerve contains between 770,000 and 1.7 million nerve fibers, which are axons of the retinal ganglion cells of one retina.

Answer:

The Optic nerve may be found in your eye, but it is part of the central nervous system. The optic nerve takes visual information gathered from your eye and transmits it using a series electrical impulses to the parts of your brain that act as vision centres, allowing you to make sense of what you are seeing.
