Explain the functions of mitochondria???
Answers
Answer:
Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles (mitochondrion, singular) that generate most of the chemical energy needed to power the cell's biochemical reactions. Chemical energy produced by the mitochondria is stored in a small molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
1)They are sites of cellular respiration.
2)They uses oxygen to oxidise carbohydrates and fats present in the cell to carbon dioxide and water. Oxidation releases energy, a portion of which is used to form ATP. Since mitochondria synthesises energy rich compound ATP it is called powerhouse of cell.
