Northern plains were formed by the interplay of three major ruver systems,namely-the Indus , the Ganga and the Brahmaputra along their tributaries.
This is formed of alluvial soil.it spreads over an area of 7 lakh sq.km. The plain being about 2400km long and 240 to 300 km broad ,is a densely populated physiographic division.
Its agriculturally very productive part of India.
It is broadly divided into three sections. Punjab plains, Ganga plains and Brahmaputra plains
