Formula of hydrated alumina is Al2O3.2H2O

Hydrated alumina (Al2O3.2H2O) when treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), sodium meta-aluminate (NaAlO2) is formed. Water (H2O) is formed as byproduct in this reaction.

Al2O3.2H2O + 2 NaOH → 2 NaAlO2 + 3 H2O
