Having originated in south-eastEngland, it became the country's national sport in the 18th century and has developed globally in the 19th and 20th centuries. International matches have been played since 1844 and Testcricket began, retrospectively recognised, in 1877.

The Laws of Cricket is a code which specifies the rules of the game of cricket worldwide. There are currently 42 Laws (always written with a capital "L") which outline all aspects of how the game is to be played.

The rich were Amateurs for two (2) reasons :

1) They considered sport a kind of leisure & play for pleasure of playing & not for money.

2) There was not enough money in the game for the rich to be interested.

South american countries are colonies of Spain and French not like cricket much. that is why cricket is not popular in South America.
