The ancient Indian history is important for several reasons. The Indus Valley Civilization has been the beginning of ancient history of India. The rise of civilization marks the ancient history. The urbanization in the Ganga Plain; Rise of Magadh, Nanda dynasty, Mauryan dynasty were the first establishments of history of India. The two major religion of Jainism and Buddhism were formed during this period. During the ancient period the Deccan was ruled by Shakas, Kushanas and Satavahanas. The golden age of Indian history i.e. Gupta Period was a part of ancient Indian history.  

The early medieval India saw the invasion from the Arab world. The period is also known as the rule of Delhi Sultanate. Various dynasties emerged during this time – Slave dynasty, Khilji Dynasty, Tughlaq dynasty and Lodi dynasty. All these rulers brought with them new concepts of governance, administration, economy. They introduced new forms of art and architecture as well.
