The Discovery of India was written in a span of four years when late Jawaharlal Nehru was arrested for being a part of the Quit India Movement (1942- 1946). It was his way of paying respect to the culture and heritage of the country. This book explains various aspects of Indian culture in detail starting from the time of the Vedas and Upanishads and ends during the time of British rule. Besides covering the culture, the author has even talked in depth about the political structure of the country over the years in a combination with philosophy. A television series on this book was also released in 1988 to make the content of this book reach a wider audience.
