Female Reproductive System consists of (i) a pair of ovaries, (ii) a pair of oviducts, (iii) a uterus, (iv) a vagina and (v) vulva.

↪Ovaries consist of follicles in different stages of growth, each follicle containing an egg.

↪Ovulation is the release of an egg on the rupturing of the follicle.

↪Normally, only one egg is released from the ovary, and that too, alternately from the two ovaries after nearly every 28 days, and the egg passes down the oviduct.

↪Each month, the uterus lining thickens up in readiness to receive the fertilised egg. If the egg is not fertilised, this lining and some blood is lost through the vagina. This is menstruation.

↪Menarche is the onset of menstruation at about 13 years of age.

↪Menopause is the stoppage of menstruation at about 45 years of age.
