The guiding principles in our preamble are the characteristics of Indian state viz. Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic & Republic.
Sovereign - Independent + absolute authority over its territory.
Socialist - Democratic socialism (Indian context) i.e. not ripping off Pvt. property and production units but regulating them for the benefit of all.
Secular - No state religion but to promote all religions.
Democratic - people's rule
Republic - Head of the state is elected by people and therefore, ppl are the holders of political sovereignty.
