The French Revolution was the first in Europe at that time, in which the population rose up against the oppression by King & Nobility as well as by the Estates Society and demanded more equality.

-It sparked a wave of revolutions against the prevailing absolutism in the whole of Europe, reinforced by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Shortly afterwards this was attempted in Germany, for example, in the 1848 Revolution, and after all the state of Belgium was created by such a French model.

-It also introduced for the first time democratic ideas ("freedom, equality, fraternity") and civil and human rights in Europe, which then spread. It can be seen as the starting point of democratic values in Europe. It was the cornerstone of the democratic Europe we know today. The importance of the French Revolution for us today:

For the first time there were democratic values in Europe that we take for granted today. For the first time a democratic constitution was implemented, including the separation of powers and their mutual monitoring. For the first time there were such things as political parties (Jacobins, Girondists). For the first time human rights & civil rights were introduced as well as the right to vote.

For the first time the separation of church and state (secularization) was established, which is a basic requirement for every democracy. For the first time there was something like a social system in the state. For the first time a free trade zone (internal customs duties within France abolished) was created, as for example today in the EU. The French Revolution brought Napoleon to power, whose Civil Code was partially applied as a law in Germany until 2003.

However, women were still not equal or allowed to participate politically
