The Dairy Development Programme started in Rajasthan on 3rd March 2007 as part of the Cairn IFC linkage programme. The programmes started when there was a lot of adultered milk, less remunerative prices and less awareness on animal care and fodder practices in the dairy business in Rajasthan.

The economic importance of dairy development programmes in economic development of Rajasthan are as follows:-

1) More women became involved in the business.

2) Farmers became more conscious of the factors influencing price.

3) Stress was given on animal care.

4) A better price was generated.

5) As a result, in 2014, Cairn involved their NGO partner SURE and also SARAS in the programmes to strengthen the project. This ensured that the farmers got better return.

The Dairy Development Project of 2007 has enhanced the overall economic development in Rajasthan.

Previously the business has adulterated milk, fewer prices of remuneration, less awareness about animal care and fodder practices were of poor qualities. Over the years this has changed.

More woman today is engaged in dairy activities. Farmer is more aware of quality, animal care, and prices.

Overall a lot of progress has been achieved. Engaging technology and information technology will further enhance and bring rapid progress.
