Explain the importance of position time graph.
Answers
Importance of position time graph:
◆The position-time graph describes the motion of an object over a period of time.
Time in seconds is conventionally plotted on the x-axis and the position of the object in meters is plotted along the y-axis.
The slope of the position-time graph reveals important information about the velocity of the object.
Answer:A position-time graph of a particle is one in which you plot time on the x-axis and position of the particle on the y-axis. When you find the slope of the graph i.e dy/dx , you find out the velocity of the particle. When you do double differentiation on the position time graph, i.e dy^2/d^2x, you find the acceleration of the particle.
Also, seeing the nature of the graph (parabolic, straight line, hyperbolic etc.) you can find out if the motion of the particle is uniform or non uniform.
Explanation: velocity =position/time,
Acceleration = velocity/time or position/(time)^2.
