E-waste refers to the electronics which are meant to be reused, resold, salvaged, recycled or disposed. There are many reasons why it is important to dispose electronic waste properly. Some of them are:
1. Prevent the release of toxic materials in the environment - Old electronic devices should be disposed properly so that toxic materials are not released into the environment. They may contain mercury, lead, chromium, cadmium, other heavy metals or potentially toxic chemical flame retardants which can be harmful. Recycling helps to reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
2. Conserve natural resources - New products can be made by recycling the old electronics. This helps to save energy and resources as lesser raw materials have to be extracted from the earth.
3. Indirect benefits - Proper processing of the electronic waste will ensure a cleaner and greener environment, better health, better productivity, lesser price, less mining and less imbalance in nature.
