Photosynthesis : Roots are important during photosynthesis because they absorb water and important minerals for the plant.

Nitrogen fixation : Rhizobium bacteria which fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in soil, lives in the root nodules of leguminous plants that is why roots are important.
