- The Himalayas are the reason for summer rains and monsoon type of climate in the regions that are beyond the Western ghats of India. Himalaya is responsible for the origin of perennial rivers which bring a lot of silt making the northern plains very fertile.
- Importance of Northern Plains :
- The fertile soil and assured water resources have made these plains a rich agricultural land. These plains are the granaries of India. The plains have a good network of roads and railways which has led to large scale industrialization of the region.
