i. The Himalayas and Indian Ocean are important for the origin of monsoon type of climate in India

ii. The Himalayas protect India from Severe cold winds blowing from the Arctic region.

iii. The Himalayas obstruct moisture laden Southwest monsoon winds and help in

iv. bringing plenty of rainfall in India

v. In summer low pressure area develops in north west India and high pressure area develops over the Indian Ocean.

vi. So the winds blow from the Sea (from high pressure) to land (low pressure.)

vii. These winds pick up moisture while blowing over the Indian Ocean.

viii. These moisture-laden winds are obstructed by the Himalayas and so they bring plenty of Orographic rainfall.

ix. Later these winds retreat from the Himalayas and move from the North East towards the Indian Ocean and bring rain to the east coast of Tamil Nadu.
