Jose Rizal pursued philosophy and letters during his first year in which he passed with excellent grades which gave him the confidence for his future education.

Jose rizal was not happy at the UST because of the hostile behaviour of professors and discrimination against Filipino students.

Later he realised that he was not suited for medicine and switched to studying arts in his final year in the university of Santo Tomas.
