The Chaura Chaura incident  was a tragic incident that occurred in Chauri Chaura , a place in Uttar Pradesh on February 5 , 1922 .

Explanation about the event :

3000 peasants gathered to protest against police officers who had beaten some volunteers picketing shops .

The police fired at the peasants.

This made the mob angry and they set the police station on fire .

This greatly shocked Gandhiji who was a believer in Ahimsa .

After this incident , Gandhiji withdrew the Non Cooperation Movement on February 22 , 1922 .
