Answer:

In solids, molecules are closer to each other due to the existence of strong force of attraction between them. As a result, molecules of a solid has least kinetic energy.

In liquids, molecules are slightly away from each other and there is less force of attraction between them as compared to solids. As a result, there is more kinetic energy in liquid molecules because they are not held together by strong force of attraction.

In gases, molecules are held together by weak Vander Waal forces. So, molecules collide with each other at a faster rate as a result, molecules of a gas has maximum kinetic energy as compared to solids and liquids.

There is least force of attraction between molecules of a gas.

Answer:

The process of changing matter from one state to another is called interconversion of states of matter. The interconversion between different states of matter can be brought about by changing the.conditions of temperature and pressure

(i)By changing temperature: By increasing the temperature solids can be converted to liquids and.liquids into gases. This occurs because on increasing the temperature the kinetic energy of particles :

increases and they can move freely. On decreasing the temperature (or cooling), reverse changes take place

For example, ice changes into liquid water at 0°C and water into steam at 100°C (at I atm.

pressure).

(ii) On increasing the pressure, the particles of matter are brought closer. Thus on increasing pressure, gases can be liquefied.
