The Khalifa was the head of the spiritual realm of the islamic world. They were defeated in the first world war and the rivalries were supposed to put a harsh treaty on them. This angered them even more. Gandhiji decided to get the attention of many people they should start a mass agitation and that can be done by the allegiance of Muslims and Hindus. In the Nagpur session, this topic was talked about and finally on the Calcutta session on September 1920, this non cooperation Khilafat movement was adopted.
