When Mendel did an experiment on dihybrid Cross, that his plants having two contrasting characters, on the first progeny the result was Round and Yellow. He then again self crossed the first progeny and got 16 results, here all of the characters were expressed in the plants, on the genotypic ratio 9:3:3:1.all these characters segregated independently, and assorted in the second progeny. This is the law of independent assortment . The alleles of the parents will be present in the chromosomes, so that the progeny may have the same allele which will be independently passed from parents to the offspring.
