Robesdpierre was a leader of Jacobins and banished Girondins. A committee on Public Safety was created to maintain order in France. He promised a Republic of Virtue. He established the Reign of Terror as he felt terror was necessary to counter terror. He ordered the execution of many people. Around thirty thousand people were executed. Watch Committees were designed to fight the enemies of the revolution and to prevent counter-revolution from gaining ground.
