Maharana Pratap gave us honor and allowed us to hold up our heads with pride. He was the only King who refused to bow down in front of Akbar and nor did he make matrimonial alliances or military alliances with Akbar as the rest of the Rajput kings ...He fought them at every point and I feel if  entire Rajputana, which  comprised of a number of small and big kingdoms had united Akbar would have failed but alas (!) their petty rivalries became a boon for Akbar and Maharana Pratap not only had to fight Akbar but also his own people...in the famous battle of Haldighati he faced Raja Man Singh, Akbar's brother-in-law !!!
In fact I feel, that after Prithviraj Chauhan in 1179, there are only 3 pages in Indian History till the late 19th century that gives us a sense of pride and honor  and those feature, Maharana Pratap, Chattarpati Shivaji & Rani Laxmibai...this was their legacy and till today people remember them with pride but the rest are forgotten and lost in the annals of history.
