it undergoes metamorphosis . first the adult butterfly lays eggs , then the eggs hatch and caterpillers rise from the egg , they then grow large by feeding on leaves and organic matter ,they then build a cacoon around themselves which then turbs to a pupa and then when the pupa bursts the adult butterfly emerges.
