Gujjar Bakarwals are great herders of goat and sheep. many of them migrated to the region of Jammu and Kashmir sreach of pastures. in winter when the high mountain were covered with snow they lived with their cattle in the lowland or the siwaliks. the scrub forest here provided pasture for their herd.By the end of april they began their northern march for their summer grazing grounds. they cross pir pnjal pasess and then enter the valley of Kashmir with the onset of summer the snow melts and the mountside are lush green which provides great nutrition for their animal herd. By the end of September the bakarwals will mmove on again this time at the downward journey to the winter base to graze the herd in the lowlands.
