That means there is a reason the pain is here, and in order to heal the wounds that pain us, we need to address the wounds and feel the pain.

You can try ignoring pain, keep your self busy in family and work, try to soothe with food or drink, take console from others or try to forget pain push it deep down your memories. But like inflatables you can't sink in a pool, no matter how long you try to hold it down, pain will pop right back up. With a splash.

So we must feel it. We must confront it, embrace it, and deal with it. Because ignoring it only puts off the inevitable, and destroys us in the process.
