Chief Seattle, just after opening his speech commented this about the future of human race. He warned us against the reckless progress of urban civilization. Seattle wanted to say that if we do not respect nature and its ways, the entire human race might be on the verge of extinction. In fact, Seattle’s speech was the earliest instance of such warning against environmental degradation. That is why his speech is regarded with high esteem.
Seattle feared that the environmental degradation would have disastrous effect on his tribal people. It would accelerate the untimely doom of the Red Indians, as they were very much dependent on nature.
