The narrator saw the two boys selling newspaper till midnight and asked them if they must work so hard . To this Nicola replied that they aren't complaining. This means they had a lot of patience and courage to work hard . It shows their willingness to work .

This sentenĉe is from Two Gentleṁen of Verona....... The two boys Nicola and Jacopo said this as they were not complaining the problems thēy deal with in their life to the author. They were just telling them. Author mistook it. Thēy were sad for their sister who was suffering from TB of the spine. Thēy were jus̤t collecting money for her treatment.
