The person who were present in the poem didn't want to help each other. They doesn't want to give there logs to the dying fire which was not only for them but also for the whole group. If any one could have given his/her log they must have saved there lives from the teeth chattering weather. But they were blind -folded by the social evil midsets that had already extinguishes the dying fire of helpfulness.

So it can be said that they have died not by the cold outside but for 'the cold within'.

HOPE IT HELPS✌️✌️
