Robert Louis Stevenson's 'The Wind's uses the literary tool of personification throughout the entire poem. From the very outset of the poem, the wind is seen to 'blow the birds' and 'toss the kites' and is later seen singing 'so loud a song'. The wind seems to exist as a separate entity as the poet feels it's presence, hearing it's 'call' and feeling it's 'push'. The poet also generously uses metaphors to compare the wind to 'ladies' skirts', or a strong child.
