Meristematic tissues:-

  1. Meristematic tissues are the only tissues which grow in a plant body. They are very active, have a thin cell wall, dense cytoplasm, and lack vacuoles.
  2. Gradually, they take a permanent shape, size as well as functions. This process is known as differentiation.
  3. They are located in between the tip of roots as well as shoot system (Apical Meristem), between the nodes (Intercalary meristem), and stem (Lateral Meristem).
  4. The Apical Meristem is responsible for the length of the plant, and the Lateral Meristem for increasing the Girth of the plant.
