Function. Areolar connective tissues hold organs in place and attaches epithelial tissue to other underlying tissues. It also serves as a reservoir of water and salts for surrounding tissues. Almost all cells obtain their nutrients from and release their wastes into areolar connective tissue.

Areolar tissue is an example of loose connective tissue in which cells and fibres are loosely arranged in a semi fluid ground substance.
Areolar tissue is present beneath the skin.
It serves as a framework for epithelium.
It contains fibroblasts which produces and secret fibres, and it also contains macrophages and mast cells.
